Freeform Labradorite bubble pendant

Freeform Labradorite bubble pendant
This pendant is made using traditional silversmithing skills and tools. A beautiful flashing freeform labradorite cabochon has been set to a hand sawn abstract shape using sterling silver and a fine silver bezel (frame).
The silver has been hand stamped with a bubble-like texture and cut out at the back to allow the light to shine through the labradorite and show off its iridescence (or labradorescence).
This stone was first discovered in the 1700s on the Isle of Paul near Labrador, Canada. The Inuits were already using it for tools and ornamental items, and it is sometimes referred to as the “stone of transformation” providing strength and perseverance in times of change. The unique optical phenomenon known as labradorescence, which gives labradorite its gorgeous array of colours, is caused by the interference of light within the crystal’s internal structure; the stone’s flashing dimensions are often likened to the Northern Lights.
The pendant hangs from a sterling silver 16” chain.
