~ COWRIE SHELL AND TEAL SEA GLASS RING ~
The cowrie shell has historically been used in jewellery (and currency) all over the world and the word porcelain derives from the Italian word for cowrie shell due to their similar appearance. This ring celebrates its beauty with one single porcelain-coloured shell and is paired with a rare teal coloured piece of sea glass, which was found by me in Seaham on the North-East coast of England. The cowrie shell was kindly donated to me from vintage jewellery maker and upcycler Becky & Vince.
The cowrie shell and teal sea glass have been aligned on a silver shield shape and framed in fine silver bezels. They have then been decorated with silver pebbles and stripes following their combined shape, which sits perfectly on any finger by way of a 3mm wide sterling silver hammered band.
The ring has been given an oxidised finish and then polished to create contrast in the flat surfaces with the decoration.

Each piece of my jewellery is traditionally made by me using silversmithing tools and skills at my East London studio and are mostly one of a kind creations. I use precious metals, gemstones and beach finds in my work and apply different textures and finishes to vary my work as much as possible. I love to use organic shapes and influences and most sea glass or sea pottery pieces are used as they are without any additional cutting, sanding or tumbling. Gemstones are ethically sourced and I use every tiny bit of silver I purchase including any fragments, offcuts and silver dust.
All of my handmade jewellery pieces are presented in rustic, eco-friendly gift boxes and shipped in recycled packaging where possible.
